CPD on Friday
The staff had training on Friday around promoting well being for children and adults. The key note speaker Dr Lea Walters presented a session on positive education. Allison and Fiona presented a session around Magnifying well being in the early years and shared some of the well being activities that take place in school. Other members of staff attended a range of workshops led by teachers from across ESF. The Educational Assistants went to Kowloon Junior School with assistants from across ESF and participated in practical sessions on mindfulness techniques for use in the classroom and personally.
Mud Kitchen Play
We have been introducing the children gradually to our new improved mud kitchen. The mud kitchen is a fantastic area for improving children’s social and physical skills. It also allows them to develop problem solving skills and may even make your child healthier and improve their cognitive functioning. Speech Therapy
If your child requires speech therapy following their screening last week, a private company can offer therapy at Abacus on Mondays. Please contact Allison Banbury for more information.
Box of Hope
Abacus will again be participating in the Box of Hope scheme to help underprivileged children. The boxes will be collected from Abacus around the 6th November, if you would like to contribute a box please bring it into school on or before the 6th November. Here are the details for the boxes including suggested content.
This is a great activity to undertake with your child. they could choose the items for the box and it helps them learn about being caring towards others.
Fair Donations
Thank-you for your generosity sponsoring the Po Leung Kuk children. We now have enough sponsorship to cover the children who will attend. We are however, still looking for raffle prizes, if you can help with this please notify the office.
Box of Hope Details
Occupational Therapy Screenings
We will be offering Occupational Therapy screenings through Sensory Tots during the week of 30th October. Please see the attached flyer for more information. These screenings are voluntary, however very useful as the occupational therapy screenings can pick up issues such as fine and gross motor delays as well as social interaction and organisational delays. It is a light touch screening which can lead to a recommendation for further assessment or OT sessions. Please find the information on how to register here, Abacus Screening Introduction.
